Nau, the Portland-based sustainable, urban + outdoor apparel company announces today the second annual $10,000 Grant for Change. This year’s grant cycle recognizes individuals, small teams and organizations using design as a tool for positive change. From May 10th through June 11th, individuals are invited to submit their stories or nominate others at nau.com. The public will then be invited to vote on their favorite nominee, helping to establish a group of ten finalists. The Grantee will be chosen by the Grant for Change leadership panel and will be awarded $10,000 to help further his or her cause. Whether it’s furthering hands-on knowledge and know-how to get people out of cars and onto bikes, an architect building energy-efficient homes, an urban planner creating greener parks for inner-city children or a visual artist using only recycled materials to create masterpieces, Nau wants to see how global citizens are making a difference in their communities and beyond.
“We were so inspired by last year’s 284 participants and all of the amazing ways that everyday people were working to make a difference, that we knew we wanted to bring back the campaign for another year,” said Mark Galbraith, General Manager of Nau. “We are excited to see what this year’s program will bring, as we believe design can provide creative, compelling, and effective solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.”
Nau is committed to blending beauty, performance, and sustainability in both its design and business models. These principles affect every core decision, from fabric choices and style aesthetics, to marketing partnerships and humanitarian and environmental practices. By acting as both a community organizer and a platform, Nau believes the Grant for Change can help support individuals, organizations and the economy to create positive environmental and social change.
Entry is simple: just log on to http://nau.com/collective/grant-for-change/nominate and describe why you or someone you know should be nominated for Grant for Change. Submissions will be posted on www.nau.com for others to view and share. Online voting is open to the public from May 10th through June 20th. Ten finalists will be selected to provide additional information and present their ideas to the Grant for Change leadership panel. The final grantee of the $10,000 Grant for Change will be announced on July 27th.
